Vintage postcards

Photographic coloring is a process of adding color to black and white or sepia photographs, usually to enhance the realism of photography or for artistic purposes.

The first uses of this technique date back to the mid-nineteenth century, before the appearance of color photography.

It continues for photos and postcards at a time when real color photos were very rare.

Typically, watercolors, oils, pencils, pastels and other paints or stains are applied to the surface of the image using brushes, fingers, cotton swatches or airbrushes.
